I’ve begun work in earnest on the divination cards!
In my last post I said that I had 38 cards. I settled on 48 (I had 50, but as soon as I started working on them I decided two were superfluous). It feels like a very good number, not bloated, but also not skimping on important themes. There are also nice numerological resonances, too.
The final categories I ended up with:
Seasons (4): Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.
Times (2): Day and Night.
Relations (5): Mother, Father, Child, Sibling, and Lover.
Elements (5): Earth, Air, Fire, and Water plus Pneuma, or soul.
Locations (8): Mostly places found in nature (e.g. Desert, Garden).
Archetypes (18): Different people we meet along life's path and are part of our societal structures and stories (e.g. The Hero, The Muse).
Miscellaneous (6): Life experiences we all share (e.g. Pain, Journey)
I’ve gotten the easy ones out of the way (Seasons, Times, and Elements) and now it’s on to the more difficult ones.
Here are some of the design pages from my workbook showing the final design, possible interpretations, information behind the symbolism on the card, and other related information. Once I've settled all the designs I'll begin to work on painting them. I also need to work up a border design, I think, to frame the imagery and keep it from being too sparse.
I've also been thinking about scanning these pages and putting them together as a guidebook for this deck.
